SK Clamping Sets

The steep taper is the original among tool interfaces and is still often used today in the machine tool industry for automatic tool change. The SK technology has already proven itself for several decades and is still a practical solution for standard machine tools despiteZange mit Halter SK60-C1-2-M30X1,5-A=0,95 mit der Artikelnummer 9510066832 von OTT-JAKOB Spanntechnik the increasing spread of the HSK interface.

Here, clamping in the machine tool spindle takes place via a tightening bolt. The shaft is centered in the sleeve exclusively via the taper surface. As a result, the use of the steep taper adapter is limited to a speed of 12,000 rpm. The most common form of steep taper is the DIN 69871 Form A with trapezoidal groove and orientation groove. The main features of an SK tool clamping system include:

  • Tightening bolt
  • no face contact
  • wide distribution
  • simple manufacturing
  • self centering

Although the SK interface allows automatic tool change, it is not able to fully exploit the possibilities of modern machine tools. At high revolutions, the spindle mandrel loses stability, concentricity, power transmission and positional accuracy. In addition to chatter marks on the surface of the workpiece, this also results in reduced dimensional accuracy on the component and shortened tool life. Due to these shortcomings, the hollow shank taper system (HSK) was developed.

In our product range, we offer various SK tool clamping sets from renowned manufacturers, such as OTT-JAKOB Spanntechnik or Ortlieb Präzisionssysteme GmbH & Co. KG.

HSK Clamping Sets

The hollow shaft-taper is standardized in DIN 69893. This is a development of the steep taper system, which has become more and more widespread in industrial applications in recent years. The suitability of the HSK tool clamping set for high spindle speeds and the possibility of a fast tool change has helped the HSK interface to gain a position of precedence over the SK interface. In direct comparison to the SK interface, the HSK interface has significantly higher radial and axial rigidity. The bending stiffness is also significantly greater. Further advantages can be seen in the lower mass and overall length. This leads to simplified and faster tool changes.

We carry many different HSK clamping sets in our product range. Below you will find the different types of OTT-JAKOB Spanntechnik GmbH and Ortlieb Präzisionssysteme GmbH & Co. KG.
